The Shady Groves

Within the context of Lumbinī, both the words “forest” and “garden” hold significance in Buddhist literature.

It is said that a fruitful garden was nestled within the Lumbinī Forest. An oasis filled with flowers, medicinal plants, and shady trees, the garden was a leisure spot, offering respite to travelers passing through Lumbinī.

Five trees are historically and culturally significant to the area: Mango, Asoka, Sal, Pipal, and Plaksha.
